The soap is handmade in small batches by a master soap maker using 84% certified organic ingredients, and is scented exclusively with essential oils of lavender, ylang ylang, lemon and lime. The packaging is made with a minimum of 30% post consumer recycled content. The lotion is produced in small batches using ingredients derived from plants which are organically grown, including extra virgin olive oil, botanical extracts, chamomile, comfrey and arnica.

This mug is reusable, but it can also be recycled wherever [5] plastic is collected. The o-ring seal is removed quickly and easily, so the lid and body can be recycled. PMI emphasizes ISO 14001 certification, water recycling, and reduction or recycling of all waste at the factories it works with. PMI gives up to 1% of sales back to local community organizations.

This product is made in the USA from 100% recyclable glass. The glass supplier factory is less than 60 miles away, reducing the shipping and transportation footprint. Kilns, which are not run at peak hours, fire up to 1350 degrees, a relatively low temperature and power requirement for this kind of process. The glass-cleaning machine cleans with non-toxic vinegar and re-uses water. Molds are re-used and leftover glass and metal materials are re-melted. Packaging is recycled or biodegradable. This company’s warehouse uses an abundant amount of skylights and low wattage, energy-efficient lighting. All employees enjoy a fair wage, medical and generous retirement contribution benefits, and a profit sharing plan. All profits from this collection benefit the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Each basket is made of two main materials: recyclable plastic and sustainably harvested rattan. 80% of the basket's volume is organic material which can be disposed of naturally. They are made by the Aeta people -- indigenous inhabitants of the Philippines -- using traditional basket weaving techniques. This project was commissioned through the Preda Foundation, a fair trade NGO. The work allows the artisans to reclaim some of their ancestral land.

This product is 100% upcycled aluminum metal, and can be melted and recycled into something else. This company partners with the Swiss NGO, Helvetas, and Laotian artisans who upcycle bomb and other war scrap metal found in their community and at large. The life cycle is a closed loop: bomb metal dropped in Laos is recycled into peaceBOMBs. Following a fair trade model, the company provides product development training, and pays artisans three to four times the typical local rates. This company donates to the village development fund and supports efforts to clear unexploded bombs from Lao land. It funds micro-loans for entrepreneurs and electricity in communal areas.

Doum palm
Doum Palm, indigenous to the forests and woodlands in northwestern Kenya, is the main material used to make these baskets. It is easily available, as are the bark and stones used to produce the dyes used to add patterns to the baskets. For the Turkana women, the cottage industry of basket making plays a crucial role in raising the standard of living for this largely nomadic tribe. Through their art, the women are able to earn income which gives them status, as well as basic necessities such as food, clothing and health care.

Mango trees stop bearing fruit after 40 years. Once the trees are cut down, the wood is reclaimed to make products like this. The wood is biodegradable, and coated with a water-based nitrocellulose (wood-based) lacquer. Wood chips generated in the carving process are used in the kilns to dry the wood to the proper moisture content. The carvers are independent contractors who supply the exporting factory. They are generally single family operations in the rural areas of northern Thailand who make more than the standard wage in their area.

The kalamkari printing process uses natural dyes made from madder bark, indigo, pomegranate rinds and jaggery. The cotton fabric is washed 3 to 4 times in a river and laid in a field to dry in the sun. The artisans are employed through SPEED Trust, a nonprofit organization based in Chennai, India. It supports socially and economically disadvantaged women from urban slum areas through vocational training, financial support and income generation.

Repurposed vintage brass components, organic cotton, hemp ribbon
The materials used here are vintage, dead stock, re-purposed or organically produced. The brass is recyclable, and cotton and hemp are biodegradable. Using these materials offsets the carbon output during the manufacturing process. These pieces are not designed to follow trends, encouraging the consumer to engage in slow consumption. Product labels are made of 100% post-consumer recycled content. The packaging is compostable PLA bags. This company is a member of 1% for the Planet, donating at least 1% of their annual net revenue to organizations like blueocean.org.
