WHITE PLAINS, NY, March 6, 2015… Designers, artisans and companies launching wholesale operations are invited to submit applications for three juried design sections and one incubator showcase that will be featured at NY NOW®, the Market for Home + Lifestyle, August 15-19, 2015, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The deadline for Accent on Design® and the HANDMADE® Collection’s Designer Maker and Global Design is Thursday, March 26; and Friday, June 5, is the deadline for HANDMADE’s Emerging Maker incubator showcase . Accent on Design
For 30+ years, Accent on Design has been the industry’s definitive resource for design-driven home and lifestyle merchandise. Presented as part of NY NOW’s HOME collection, Accent on Design’s 150+ contemporary designers are culled through a rigorous set of juried acceptance criteria including: originality, creativity and authentic product design; new and innovative use of materials; products which address and solve problems; consistent and continuous new product creations; a focus on contemporary design; and functionality. HANDMADE®
For 30+ years, HANDMADE®has highlighted hand-crafted items, across a full range of home and lifestyle product categories, in media including wood, fiber, metal, ceramics, glass and more. The collection presents two juried sections: Designer Maker, which showcases 350 limited-production makers across all categories and media, and Global Design, which presents a selection of 150 international craft resources with a focus on strong design blended with traditional techniques and quality workmanship. Jury criteria for acceptance into Designer Maker include: a developed line of unique and original work; products designed and handmade by the artist with a focus on limited production and quality craftsmanship. Global Design criteria ensure a line of unique and original work with quality craftsmanship; authentic designs handmade through global artisan workshops and ability to cater to the U.S. wholesale market. Emerging Makers
A special incubator showcase within HANDMADE, Emerging Makers focuses on new talent, highlighting the work of up-and-coming craft designers and makers. Only students and recent graduates in business for one year or less; or artisans entering the wholesale marketplace for the first time, qualify to apply. Criteria for acceptance by the HANDMADE Designer Maker selection committee include unique and original work, authentic design and quality craftsmanship. Emerging Designer Maker Platform applications will be accepted through Friday, June 5. The online form is available at www.nynow.com/EDMP.
The summer 2015 edition of NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle, will have staggered opening and closing days: Saturday, August 15, through Tuesday, August 18, for the HANDMADE collection; and Sunday, August 16, through Wednesday, August 19, for Accent on Design (as well as the HOME and LIFESTYLE Collections).
