THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

NEW YORK, NY. – August 22, 2016 – NY NOW®, the Market for Home, Lifestyle + Gift, is excited to announce the winners of its 12th semi-annual Eco Choice Awards program for the summer 2016 market. From more than 150 products, three have been selected as winners and are currently being showcased within the SustainAbility: design for a better world® on display in the North Concourse, at NY NOW through Wednesday, August 24th.

“NY NOW understands the ever-increasing demand for eco-friendly products and our strict qualifying standards recognize the importance of eco-friendly production practices,” said Scott Kramer, Vice President and NY NOW Co-Director. “All products eligible for submissions are manufactured or constructed with only recycled, recyclable and/or sustainable materials and an emphasis on socially responsible and fair trade business practices.”

The winners and finalists of the summer 2016 Eco Choice Awards are:

WINNER: Most Innovative: Tokens & Icons (Handmade® Designer Maker, Booth #9213) for its MLB Game Used Baseball Wool Hat.

WINNER: Most Sensitive Use of Materials: CounterEvolution (Home Furnishings + Textiles, Booth #2849) for it’s The “Looper” Lazy Susan.

WINNER: Most Sellable: Spinster Sisters (Personal Care + Wellness, Booth #7931) for its Salt Soak.

NYNOW’s SustainAbility: design for a better world® product display attracted submissions from all three collections – HOME, LIFESTYLE and HANDMADE – of the expansive summer 2016 market and each entry underwent a rigorous qualifying process before being selected for inclusion. All participating products were eligible for the Eco Choice Awards program and entries were evaluated onsite at NY NOW earlier this week by judges Yuka Yoneda of Inhabitat NYC; Sam Ujvary of Gift Shop, Susan Inglis of the Sustainable Furnishings Council and Candance Holloway of Uncommon Goods.

The winning products will remain on display within NY NOW’s SustainAblity: design for a better world® exhibit throughout the duration of the market; each product is showcased alongside details about their provenance and production process. These “back-stories” highlight the green elements of the production process such as the use of renewable or alternative sources of energy in production, including wind, sun, and alternative fuels.
