THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

WHITE PLAINS, NY, June 20, 2014… An expanded schedule of educational seminars – beginning with pre-show exhibitor webinar training and continuing with four days of on-site programming – will be offered at the summer 2014 edition of Artisan Resource®, Saturday, August 16, through Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94 in New York City. Artisan Resource is a first-of-its-kind market offering U.S.-based volume importers, direct import retailers, wholesalers and designers the opportunity to meet with international artisanal producers from around the world.

“We’re introducing a pre-show webinar as an orientation to the U.S. market for exhibitors new to Artisan Resource,” said Allison Garafalo, Artisan Resource sales manager. “Additionally, we’ve expanded our onsite programming to add value to the overall market experience for exhibitors and attendees.” (NOTE: A full seminar and event schedule follows and is available online at www.artisanresourceny.com.)

Artisan Resource exhibitors can participate in a free orientation webinar, “Ready, Set Go: Prepare for a successful Artisan Resource experience,” presented by Karen Gibbs of ByHand Consulting. The one-hour session, which will be presented on July 16 and repeated on July 23, will cover topics such as U.S. buyer expectations, booth etiquette, display tips, negotiating terms, export pricing terms, distribution logistics, developing long-term relationships and basic post-show follow up.

Exhibitor-focused education will continue at Market, with two onsite sessions addressing design and color trends in global handmade markets and global distribution issues and opportunities. Onsite exhibitor sessions are: “Handmade Futures: 2015 Design and Color Trends in Global Handmade Products,” on Sunday, August 17, 8am – 9am; and “From Your Hands to Their Homes: The Distribution and Pricing of Artisan Product for the US Market,” on Monday, August 18, 8am – 9am.

During market week, free “Importing 101: Everything you always wanted to know about importing but were afraid to ask!” seminars will be presented daily (August 16-19), from 9am – 10:30am, for Artisan Resource attendees. Presenters Phil Hobson of Phoenix International and Colvin English of ByHand will provide an overview of international business relationships, and the logistics, vocabulary and responsibilities of both exporter and importer.

Two new sessions, addressing designer-artisan partnerships and marketing culture-based artisan stories, will extend the seminar line-up for summer 2014. These seminars, which are open to attendees and exhibitors alike, are: “Perfect Partners: Designer/Artisan Duos Open New Markets When They Work Together,” on Sunday, August 17, 1pm – 2pm; and “Vision, Value and Veracity: Telling Handmade Stories in the Age of Transparency,” on Monday, August 18, 1pm – 2pm. Details and registration is available online at www.artisanresourceny.com.

In addition to education, an opening-day welcome reception will offer free wine and musical entertainment on Saturday, August 16, during extended shopping hours, from 6pm – 8pm. Artisan Resource participants also can take advantage of the extensive seminar series and social events offered at NY NOW, such as the “Night on Broadway” featuring BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL on Tuesday, August 19. Information and registration for all NY NOW seminars and events is available online at www.nynow.com/programs.

Artisan Resource is a semi-annual tradeshow which runs concurrently with NY NOW, offering a production-sourcing venue for overseas artisan enterprises to showcase their products and production capabilities – at export terms – from their country of origin. The semi-annual tradeshow is managed by Emerald Expositions and organized with the assistance of ByHand Consulting.
