THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

NEW YORK, NY, August 15, 2014… Five companies – two from Australia and three from the United States – participating in Home Textiles Market Week® in New York City were named winners of Home Textiles Best New Product Awards today. The Alya Collection by Antiochia USA LLC, which was deemed “Best of Market,” and four other individual category winners, are eligible for NY NOW’s “Best of HOME” Award, which will be determined by online balloting – at www.facebook.com/nynowmarket – during the Summer 2014 edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home + Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®), which runs through Wednesday, August 20, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

In addition to the overall “Best of Market” distinction, Home Textiles Best New Product Awards are presented semi-annually in four categories: Bed, Bath, Dining and Home Accessories. A panel of trade and consumer editors select winners and finalists based on criteria including innovation in design, creative use of materials/construction and new fiber, material or technology.

The summer 2014 winners and finalists are:

BEST OF MARKET:
Antiochia™ USA LLC (Corfton, MD) for its Alya Collection, a double-sided traditional Turkish towel made of traditional hand looms in 100% cotton. Made in Turkey and available in orange, baby blue, red, lime green, grey and berry.

BED CATEGORY:
Winner: Lazybones™ (Byron Bay, NSW, Australia) for its “thrift” kantha quilt, featuring vintage prints hand printed onto soft cotton and hand stitched into a patchwork style kantha quilt.
Finalist: Downright Ltd. (Brooklyn, NY) for its Australian Merino Wool Mattress Pad.
Finalist: John Robshaw Inc. (New York, NY) for its Bay Collection.

BATH CATEGORY:
Winner: HOME and LOFT (New York, NY) for its Adult Robes, made out of Turkish Pestemal/Fouta Towel, hooded with tassels. The 100% Cotton, hand dyed and woven fabric, comes in three colors: red, blue and lilac stripe.
Finalist: IKEUCHI ORGANIC Inc. (Imabari, Japan) for its Organic Air Towel.
Finalist: LinenMe (Chicago, IL) for its Stone Washed Wafer Bath Linen.

DINING CATEGORY:
Winner: Walter G (Sydney,NSW, Australia) for its Nila Napkin Set, with playfully mixed patterns in blue and white for tabletop. Inspired by traditional Indian motives, each napkin has been hand block printed and 100% naturally dyed in indigo by artisans in Bagru, Rajasthan.
Finalist: Sivaana (Hackensack , NJ) for its Classic Chic table linen collection.
Finalist: VDS Groupe – Vanderschooten (Grenoble, France) for its Millenaire Collection.

HOME ACCESSORIES CATEGORY:
Winner: Doggiedasherie (Worcester, MA) for its George, an end table with pet bed.
Finalist: Animaná (Buenos Aires, Argentina) for its ABR2 DOUBLE baby alpaca artisanal blanket.
Finalist: Matouk (New York, NY) for its Evora towel.

“The Best New Product Awards recognize excellence in design, as well as functionality and salability,” said Danielle Giacoponello, NY NOW Home Furnishings + Textiles sales manager. “This year’s slate of winners and finalists, which span five continents, excelled at blending these elements.”

All five winning products automatically qualify in the NY NOW “Best of HOME” Award, which will be determined through online voting at www.facebook.com/nynowmarket. “Peoples’ Choice” balloting runs August 16-19, and the winner will be announced on August 20, at the conclusion of the summer 2014 edition of NY NOW.

The panel of judges included: Melissa A. Colgan of House Beautiful, Elle Décor and Veranda; Jenny Heinzen York of Home Accents Today; Wanda Jankowski of LDB Interior Textiles; Jennifer Marks of Home & Textiles Today; Sara Peterson of HGTV Magazine; Duke Ratliff of HFN; and Laura van Zeyl of Home Fashion Forecast.
