THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

– Artisan Resource® Section Welcomes New HANDMADE Exhibitors Among Country Pavilions, Market Incubator Program, and More! –

WHITE PLAINS, NY. — July 13, 2017 — NY NOW®, the Market for Home, Lifestyle + Gift, is excited to announce a surge in new participants in its one-of-a-kind Artisan Resource® section at the upcoming summer 2017 market. As part of NY NOW’s HANDMADE Collection, Artisan Resource connects U.S.-based importers with international producers and exporters by providing a production-sourcing opportunity for overseas artisan enterprises to showcase their products and production capabilities at export terms from the country of origin. This section will be open Sunday, August 20 through Wednesday, August 23. Previously situated on the west end of the 1000 – 1200 aisles of Level 3 of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Artisan Resource will now be located on the west end of the 3600 – 3900 aisles, also on Level 3.

There is an unprecedented demand for handmade and artisan products among consumers as they look to purchase items that are unique for their loved ones (and themselves!). Exhibitors in the Artisan Resource section will showcase a variety of wares in categories including gift, home décor, textiles, tabletop, stationery, jewelry, apparel and fashion accessories, from materials that include ceramics, glass, metal, leather, natural fibers, recycled materials and paper. Exhibitors are carefully selected to participate in this section based on their commitment to design innovation, cultural preservation, social enterprise and sustainability experience. They also demonstrate the capability to meet export demands at volume pricing.

“Artisan Resource at NY NOW continues to be a focal point for buyers looking to bring hand-crafted wares to their consumers,” said Randi Mohr, Group Show Director, NY NOW and Vice President, Emerald Expositions. “With more than 25 countries represented, and new brands making their debut each Market, this is one section that attendees can’t afford to miss.”

Nearly 100 artisans will fill the Artisan Resource section including 50 new tenants that are making their NY NOW debut. Newcomers include:
    •   3rd Culture (Booth #3876) – Based in Istanbul, Turkey, the company offers a
collection of unique furniture, photography, gifts and personal accessories under
the brand’s “Inspired by the World, Created in Istanbul” guideline, all of which are
unique to the 3rd Culture brand, created and designed in Istanbul and produced by
local artisans and craftsmen in Istanbul’s historic Beyoglu neighborhood.
    •   Community Friendly Movement (Booth #3795) – Based in New Delhi, India, the
company is a social enterprise whose mission is to create wealth for artisan
communities at the bottom of the supply chain by offering quality handmade
products to its customers at competitive prices by working directly with the
community to reduce the number of intermediaries in the chain.
    •   Rarity Handbags (Booth #3874) – Based in South Africa, the company designs
and manufactures handbags for export from a heritage of natural materials,
delivering a flawless contemporary product that exemplifies a uniqueness through
interpretive design.

In addition, NY NOW continues to welcome new brands to its popular Market Incubator Pavilion. First launched in 2013, companies in this section represent emerging artisan enterprises that can exhibit in the pavilion for three consecutive Markets providing opportunities to grow their presence and business over time. In August, this pavilion will be home to 15 brands, including newcomers such as Trash to Cash (Booth #3683 – India), Tribal Textiles (Booth #3669 – Zambia) and Sa Voix (Booth #3675 – Haiti).

Finally, NY NOW is excited to announce a new addition to its government-sponsored pavilions in the section – the Argentine Investment and Trade Promotion Agency (Booth #3674). This pavilion joins Tunisian Handicraft (Booth #3770), The Indonesian Consulate General in New York (Booth #3670), MAISON DE L’ARTISAN – HANDICRAFT FROM MOROCCO (Booth #3970), and the Indonesia Agency for Creative Economy (Booth #3662). These pavilions provide buyers a chance to shop and source from a variety of brands from each country, showcasing the breadth and depth of the creativity and innovation available from the region.
