THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

WHITE PLAINS, NY, December 5, 2014… With strong representation across three collections and eight categories, 99 products have been selected to be showcased in the “Made in the USA” display at the winter 2015 edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home & Lifestyle, to be held January 31-February 4 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Center. The exhibit was curated for the first time by representatives of CRAFT (Craft Retailers & Artists for Tomorrow), an association of galleries, shops and artists dedicated to promoting American-made craft.

Of the 236 products submitted for review, 99 products from 25 states were accepted for display. Of the nearly 100 selections, 24 were factory-produced and 75 were handmade, a distinction which will be called out in the onsite exhibit with special “Made in the USA” and “Handmade in the USA” logos. Qualifying products signify a good representation across NY NOW’s three collections – HOME, LIFESTYLE and HANDMADE – and categories: Accent on Design®, Home Furnishings + Textiles, Tabletop + Gourmet Housewares within HOME; Baby + Child, Gift, Personal Accessories and Personal Care + Wellness within LIFESTYLE; and Designer Maker within HANDMADE.

“This was a challenging assignment because so many entries were of such high quality, using great materials and inspired design,” said Diane Sulg, President of CRAFT. “Many makers are focused on using great ingredients in their products, so many of the accepted products are natural, locally sourced, sustainable, eco-friendly and even recycled,” Sulg added.

Display highlights will include: Stonehenge, sterling silver jewelry handcrafted in Seattle; Trilogy, a collection of cheese servers factory-produced in Vermont; vegan artisan soaps, hand-blended, cut and cured for four weeks in San Diego for noon designs; Beach Frames’ picture frames handmade from reclaimed wood in Florida; Paris PuzzleMap, factory-produced by Design Ideas in Illinois; cat and dog clocks with wagging tails, handmade in Connecticut by Pink Cloud Gallery; and printed board books factory-produced with 100% recycled paperboard in Brooklyn, NY, by Home Grown Books.
