WHITE PLAINS, NY, June 20, 2014… More than 100 home and lifestyle products, representing four key 2014-2015 design trends, have been accepted into the “Open House” exhibit, which returns to the summer edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home+ Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®), August 16-20, 2014, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The third edition of Open House is presented cooperatively by NY NOW and media partner Progressive Business Media, publishers of Gifts and Decorative Accessories, Home Accents Today and Home & Textiles Today – and color, trend and e-commerce partner One Kings Lane.“The products selected by One Kings Lane merchandising team to represent the four trends demonstrate a wide range of inspiration as well as application,” noted Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and senior vice president. “Even the most functional products, such as baskets, blankets and furniture, are being treated with thematic touches that will resonate with consumers in the year ahead.” (NOTE: A complete list of accepted products, and corresponding trends, is available online at http://nynow.studio98test.com/TheShow/OpenHouseParticipantsSummer2014.aspx.)The four trends, as well as their inspirations and expressions, were identified by editors from Gifts and Decorative Accessories, Home Accents Today and Home & Textiles Today. The merchandising team from One Kings Lane, the leading online destination for the home, reviewed more than 1,000 products submitted by NY NOW exhibitors and selected 106 products as most reflective of each of the following trends:Brass Tactics: Designers are embracing brass, and similarly copper and bronze, as a fresh alternative to silver and gold. With its weight, polish and warm color, bronze has an especially modern luster. Products selected to represent this trend include the “Agatha” oval trolley, a two-tier mobile serving cart by GO Home Ltd.; the “Dahlia” molded brass charger-style placemat by Chilewich/Sultan LLC; and the brass candleholders and bowls by Georg Jensen USA.Straight Out of Gibraltar: Motifs from the Moorish and Arabesque designs of lower Spain, Northern Africa and the Arabian peninsula are entering interior design. Both classic and playful treatments include arches, intricate geometrics and calligraphic lines. Examples of this theme are represented by the Genie oil lamp and wooden camels by R. Expo (USA) LTD; the Morocco destination spa soap by Greenwich Bay Trading; and Embroidery Flatware Collection by Hampton Forge.Prints Charming: Small printed designs are being used to break up solid blocks of color. These tight, scaled-down prints draw heavily from florals and nature motifs. Samples of products utilizing these patterns include: “Careyes” zippered cosmetic cases by Stephanie Johnson; the Fox + Finch lines of cushions and canisters by LUprints; and the grey “Pyramids” collection of cushions and napkins by Walter G.Lakeside Living: Coastal living in the interior is the current focus, with greens and earth tones, a woodsy mood and Americana accents. Products representing this trend include: The “Hub Ladder” beechwood and steel clothing and towel holder by Umbra LLC; the “Fisherman in Boat” down-filled linen pillow by Ox Bow Décor; and the “Lake Side Living” original camping print by Lucy Darling. One Kings Lane’s merchandising team will design, install and merchandise the Open House display at NY NOW. The exhibit, which will be located in the Javits Center’s North Concourse, will be open August 16-20, during all NY NOW hours.NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle, will run Saturday, August 16 through Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at New York City’s Jacob K.
