THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

WHITE PLAINS, NY, February 10, 2015… The winter 2015 Artisan Resource® was a resounding success following its relocation to New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and its integration onto the exhibit floor of NY NOW®, the Market for Home + Lifestyle, February1-4, 2015. Now in its sixth semi-annual edition, Artisan Resource is a first-of-its-kind market offering U.S.-based volume importers, direct import retailers, designers and wholesalers the opportunity to meet with international artisanal producers.

“Exhibitors and buyers alike were pleased with the integration of Artisan Resource into the Javits Convention Center generally and into NY NOW specifically,” said Allison Garafalo, Artisan Resource sales director. “The seamless flow of the two tradeshows generated increased awareness, attendance and order-writing for exhibitors, while also offering buyers additional artisanal resources as part of the marketplace.”

The winter 2015 edition of Artisan Resource, which presented resources from around the world, was presented across four aisles adjacent to NY NOW’s HOME Collection. Charter Artisan Resource exhibitor, Ellen Fish, executive director of Friends of Tilonia, Inc., said, “Our new location as part of Javits is a real benefit, and it’s much easier for our customers to reach us. Being close to the HOME section was also advantageous with home goods buyers discovering the beauty of artisan-crafted products.”

Exhibitors making their debut at Artisan Resource were equally successful. “In one word, the show was awesome,” said Leyli Coreo of Setesik. “This was our first time exhibiting at Artisan Resource and we did so as part of the Market Incubator program. We wrote orders with big and small stores alike and were able to compile a database of 40 new customers, based in the Northeast region and West Coast, as well as all over the world.”

Artisan Resource showcased a variety of overseas export enterprises and organizations offering handmade product collections and custom design production from around the world. Exhibiting countries for 2015 included: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Kenya, Mali, Mexico, Morocco, Niger, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Tibet, Uganda and Vietnam.

The summer 2015 edition, which will remain at the Javits Center adjacent to NY NOW’s HOME Collection, will expand more than three-fold to fill approximately 10,000 net square feet of exhibit space. The Panama Pavilion, a group which participated for its third time this winter, is one of several exhibitors which has already committed to return and to double its booth size for the summer edition. Eduardo Palacios, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Trade for the Panama Pavilion, said, “The new location at Javits is great. It has more traffic, a nicer setup and is more convenient.”

Education, always a hallmark of Artisan Resource, was expanded for buyers and enhanced for exhibitors this winter. Exhibitor training sessions – addressing buyer demographics, sales and marketing materials for American buyers, and changing U.S. distribution channels – were presented pre-market as webinars, allowing exhibitors to be better prepared for participation in the Market.

An expanded series of programs was presented for attendees during the Market. In addition to daily “Importing 101” sessions, addressing basics for importing, the show offered two specific educational tracks: Handmade Business Day and Design Council Day. Sessions addressed best practices on topics including the growing demand for handmade products, customizing messages for media, sourcing, price negotiation, and ways of turning ideas and concepts into handmade products.

The summer 2015 edition of Artisan Resource will take place Sunday, August 16, through Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Artisan Resource will run concurrently, and adjacently, with NY NOW, offering a production-sourcing venue for overseas artisan enterprises to showcase their products and production capabilities – at export terms – from their country of origin. The semi-annual tradeshow is managed by Emerald Expositions and organized with the assistance of ByHand Consulting.
