THE SUMMER MARKET: AUG 4 – 7, 2024, JAVITS CENTER

WHITE PLAINS, NY, July 18, 2014… With nearly 130 artisans from 32 countries worldwide participating, the summer 2014 edition of Artisan Resource® will be the largest event since its initial launch in 2012. Artisan Resource, which runs concurrently with NY NOW®, the Market for Home + Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®), August 16-19, 2014, at New York City’s Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94, is a one-of-a-kind market offering U.S.-based volume importers, direct import retailers, designers and wholesalers the opportunity to meet with international artisanal producers.

“In just two years, both the numbers of companies and countries represented at Artisan Resource has increased five-fold,” said Allison Garafalo, Artisan Resource sales manager. “This summer, we’ll introduce a large influx of new suppliers, with 70 new exhibitors, including a growing number of emerging companies making their New York debut through the Market Incubator Program.”

The successful Market Incubator Program – created in 2013 through a partnership between GLM, HAND/EYE Fund and ByHand Consulting – will return to the show with 15 companies. Through this program, emerging artisan enterprises can exhibit in the Market Incubator Pavilion booth for three consecutive Shows, at gradually increasing investment levels. Through the program, ByHand Consulting also provides participants with assistance in Show preparation, buyer outreach and onsite Show assistance.

This August, the Market Incubator Program will introduce six first-time participants to Artisan Resource: ABAN (handbags and accessories made out of recycled materials in Ghana); Art Da Terra (natural fiber jewelry made in Brazil); CITE Chulacanas (ceramic collections from two Peruvian workshops); Fait la Force (leather goods, denim handbags, and horn and bone jewelry from Haiti); Indigo (Guatemalan home décor and personal accessories); and Sulafa Embroidery Center (shawls, pillows, handbags, and ornaments made in Palestine).

Returning Market Incubator Pavilion participants include: The Benitez Collection (eco-friendly jewelry made in the Philippines); Bibi Hanum (hand woven textiles from Uzbekistan); Conserve India (up-cycled personal accessories); Entoto Beth Artisans (handcrafted jewelry and baskets from Ethiopia); La Red (hand-woven and hand-embroidered home and personal accessories from Mexico); Papillon Enterprise (“up-cycled” jewelry, pottery, clothing, and decorative items from Haiti); Poetic Threads (embroidered pillows, jewelry, and home décor made in Pakistan); Rope International (handmade fiber home décor from South India); and Run by Rural (hats and accessories from Peru and Kitenge fabric apparel made in Tanzania).

With confirmed exhibitors from 32 countries around the globe, the summer 2014 edition of Artisan Resource will be the largest in the Show’s history. Countries represented this August include: Afghanistan, Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

In addition to individual companies from these countries, the Show also will feature eight government-sponsored pavilions, each showcasing multiple artisan production resources, including: Cambodia High Value Silk; PRO ECUADOR; Ghana’s Export Promotion Authority; Indonesia’s Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises; PROMEXICO; Panama’s Ministry of Trade and Industry; Peru’s Peruvian Pavilion; and Tunisia’s Office National De L’artisanat Tunisien (ONAT).

The semi-annual tradeshow is managed by Emerald Expositions and organized with the assistance of ByHand Consulting.
